Orange Clove
about.
Orange Clove is a mulling spice blend with California citrus, celebrating Irish heritage and the California coastline. Historically, mulling spices are used in warm drinks and were used to improve the taste of wine or cider. Simmering these spices also creates a cozy scent in the home, a smell that I grew up with around the holidays.
Creative Strategies:
Illustrating the ingredients – giving the brand a rustic, homemade feel
Location specific – celebrating the brand's roots through geographic and cultural influences from Ireland and California
Vintage-inspired – to make the brand feel historic
challenge.
I drew a variety of orange blossoms and orange peels to keep the handmade tone
After experimentation, the label was half-rounded half-rectangular, drawing from vintage labeling
Incorporating a recipe card would make it feel authentic and home-like, but where was the most convenient place?
result.
Instead of having the recipe card on the side, I put it on the top folded into a self-closing envelope so it wouldn’t interfere with either side of the label.
The yellow and cream both come from the embroidery stitched onto my mother's dancing dress
The mountain is reminiscent of the mountain ranges in my hometown
