Jazzier
about.
Jazzier is a display contemporary serif typeface designed by Ignacio Casco Guijarro. It was released in 2021 by the foundry Dalton Maag. The inspiration for Jazzier stems from decorative and ornate metal typefaces that gained popularity in the late 1800s. Both functional and artistic, I wanted to reflect and reimagine these historical designs as modern and contemporary.
challenge.
I looked everywhere but the only image I could find of Ignacio Casco Guijarro was a 300px by 300px square. This was not ideal. I experimented with ways I could express his likeness without using his picture. I began experimenting with using the typeface itself to illustrate its designer.
results.
By creating his headshot out of the typeface itself, I could display more of the characters while also represent the designers in a creative way. This book was perfect bound.
